     Meet Sarah Quist

Hello and welcome to Functional Medicine Nutrition. My name is Sarah Quist and I am a functional medicine nutritionist and certified dietitian. Allow me to share my story and background with you.

My interest in nutrition began in my 20’s as I battled the painful and debilitating diseases of endometriosis and adenomyosis. At the young age of 24 I underwent surgery to remove my uterus. While it removed adenomyosis, endometriosis remained. Even though much of my pain was relieved with surgery, I knew I needed to make some changes in my diet and lifestyle to achieve better health.

During that time, I decided to go back to school and become a massage therapist. I specialized in pregnancy massage. In 2006 I attended American College of Healthcare Sciences and obtained a diploma as a Master Herbalist and Aromatherapist. I began creating herbal remedies specifically for mothers and babies.

Fast forward to the age of 43 when I decided to make a career change and so back to school I went. I attended Utah Valley University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology. I was awarded a scholarship from the National Science Foundation and part of that scholarship was to create, design, and conduct a research project funded by the foundation. I decided to conduct my research on how the gut microbiome influences Alzheimer's disease. It was a very challenging project but set me on a course I never imagined for myself.

Once I finished my bachelor's degree, I decided to continue my education to obtain a master’s degree. I found the perfect graduate school for me. I attended John Patrick University of Health and Applied Sciences. I obtained a master’s degree in Integrative and Functional Medicine with a double major in Nutrition and Alzheimer's, Dementia, and Memory Care.

Because I love learning so much, my education never ends. After graduating with my master’s degree, I further qualified myself by becoming a certified practitioner in the ReCODE program developed by Dr. Dale Bredesen and his team. The ReCODE program was developed for Alzheimer's patients and cognitive decline. I also attended the Kharrazian Institute to obtain certifications in brain health, digestive health, hormone health, neuroinflammation, cardiovascular health, women’s health, autoimmune disorders, diabetes, Hashimoto's, infertility, respiratory conditions, and metabolic disorders.

I am passionate about functional medicine and health. While I do appreciate conventional medicine when it comes to emergencies or crises, they do not offer true health care. Conventional medicine is sick care and are trained only to address symptoms. They are not educated in how to find the root cause of disease. Functional medicine addresses the body as a whole and looks to see how everything relates.

I have such a great desire to help others on their health journey, to find answers and solutions. I love teaching and educating others how to take their health back into their own hands, how to care for themselves, and how to make better nutrition and lifestyle choices. I hope I can help you too.

A Few More Tid-Bits About Me:

I am a musician and have been composing music on the piano since I was 11-years-old. I am also an artist. I enjoy painting with oils and watercolor. I even have a few sculptures. I love the great outdoors and hiking (thanks dad). The national parks in Utah are some of my favorite places to go. I am an avid reader and love learning. I love gardening and flowers (thanks mom).

And last, but certainly not least, I am a Christian. I love, and serve, Jesus Christ with all my heart, might, mind, and strength. He is my Savior and the master healer. It was through Him that I found my healing, and now it is with Him that I help others find their healing.
